This homeschool equine science curriculum is designed to engage students in the fascinating world of horses.
Perfect for 3rd-6th grade kids, this study covers iconic breeds like the Lipizzaner stallions, wild mustangs, the American-bred Morgan horse, and the Chincoteague ponies. Beginning with the Godolphin Arabian in the 1700s, this curriculum spans to the mid-1900s and features award-winning books such as Marguerite Henry’s Misty of Chincoteague, Walter Farley’s The Black Stallion, and Anna Sewell’s Black Beauty.
Students will explore horse anatomy, breed identification, and practice basic sketching of horses. They will also learn to chart bloodlines and memorize Bible verses about horses, blending equine science with faith-based learning. The homeschool teacher’s guide includes comprehension and discussion questions, helping children connect with the material.
This curriculum is perfect for horse lovers and equine enthusiasts looking to deepen their knowledge of the science of horses.

My 4th grade daughter really enjoyed this curriculum! I love the way these books led her to learn geography, history, anatomy of the horse, etc. Great way to motivate a child who loves horses.
We really like this curriculum. The curated books are amazing. MY daughter loves to read and loves horses, this has been a great way to spend good quality time and learn at the same time!
My 4th grade daughter and I did this curriculum together. We loved the books so much. My surprise favorite was Brighty - such a sweet and fun yet suspenseful book. Also really enjoyed The White Stallion of Lipizza - so many great character traits modeled in that book. The guide doesn’t have a lot but it’s easily customizable if you want to add more.
We spent a year with this curriculum for my 9 and 7 year olds. The nine year old has loved horses her whole life, and this was her favorite subject! The book list was phenomenal, and the additional history and drawing projects made for a wonderful experience! Highly recommend!
My daughter did this study independently for her 6th grade year and she absolutely loved it. I have 5 other children and wish I could have done it with her, but I know it was an absolutely amazing year for her. I read all the books before or after her, and was so pleased with the beauty of the literature. Marguerite Henry's legacy of historical horse literature is a national treasure. We found about half the books on audio through the library, so my daughter was able to listen and read along, and I know that made it even more enjoyable for her.
I have to share how much our entire household is enjoying the History of the Horse curriculum. My daughter is in fourth grade this year and we purchased and began the curriculum in late spring when schools were closed in our area. This curriculum was one of our first experiences with homeschooling and we fell in love with it and decided we'd go the homeschooling route for the 20-21 year. We've been trying many new things so we haven't moved very fast through this curriculum but we've enjoyed every lesson so far. My daughter loves horses and finding a curriculum that allows her to learn about history while enjoying great literature has been such a treat. Even our 8 year old son loves listening while we read the literature out loud. She just started the section on the Lipizzaner stallions and all four of us in our household were fascinated to learn about these horses. I highly recommend this curriculum to anyone that has a horse lover in their household!
My daughter is loving this curriculum. She wants to be a therapist when she is older and would like to use horses with this goal. Very excited that she is doing so well with it. :)
My two horse loving daughters loved this set. We loved every book! That doesn't happen very often. The guide is very helpful with extra bits of information/background info. While it had some suggestions, I do wish there were a few more hands on ideas in the guide, but those were easy enough to find myself online. Overall, it was a great set and I highly recommend it!
My horse-loving daughter is really enjoying learning about all the different horses. Great set of books!
This is a SUPERB guide for various ages. My first grader and fifth grader have been working on this together this summer. It has been a great bonding experience and they are learning so much!!
My son loved this program!
This summer for my own enrichment I decided to do "History of the Horse." History of the Horse is authored by home school graduate, Hilary Severson. History of the Horse is based on the teachings of British educator, Charlotte Mason as described in Susan Schaeffer Macaulay's book "For the Children's Sake." The study covers equine history using the texts "The Handbook of Horses" and "Album of Horses." "Living books" such as "Black Beauty, King of the Wind, Misty of Chincoteague and Black Stallion" are the backbone of the curriculum. Notebooking is incorporated into each lesson so at the end of the year your student will have a hand made book of what they have studied. Overall I have been pleased with the scope/sequence of this study. Our family looks forward to continuing our journey through history with Beautiful Feet Books.

My son loved this program!
I got this program for my daughter who is a horse fanatic. She loved learning so much about horses. She was so excited to do this study because she could not believe learning about horses actually counted as "school". She still cherishes these books several years later and will not part with them.
