Pack your bags for Europe and South America. This homeschool geography study uses award-winning children's picture books to guide K-4 students through history, nature study, folktales, fables, music, art, and poetry, with gentle Socratic questions woven in to encourage thoughtful discussion.
Travel through France, Spain, Italy, Holland, Denmark, Sweden, and Great Britain before crossing the ocean to Ecuador, Chile, Peru, and Brazil. Along the way, students color and cut out maps and flags for each country, then journal about what they've discovered about its people, customs, and landscapes.
Every country study also features illustrations of animals native to the region, giving students a window into local wildlife, habitats, and behaviors that builds a lasting appreciation for the natural world. Chapters wrap up with a taste of local cuisine: recipes, photos, and links that turn dinner into a cultural adventure.
Library Connections and History and Biography suggestions accompany each chapter, giving parents plenty of room to extend the study with additional reading. Roughly seventy lessons make up the full course, easily paced at four lessons a week for a semester or two lessons a week across a full year.
This study is a companion to Around the World with Picture Books, Part 1, which covers Asia, Africa, Australia, and Antarctica. The two studies can be completed in either order.
My review is the same here as the first for the most part. We loved this curriculum and I divided it into subject (history, science, and character building) and while we didn't buy all the books in the curriculum there were some not included that were suggested from the "Library Connection" section and we have enjoyed them just as much. Also one SURPRISE for me we ANNO'S JOURNEY!!! When I first saw it I was unsure and we ended up LOVING the book and looking forward to ending our school days with it.
I have been homeschooling for 22 years. I thought I was done with elementary studies until we had our granddaughter during the day over the summer and after school (once school started.) Her mom and I split the cost for the books, and we began our study. I will say, after using so many programs over the years, Around the World (Part 1) is the most AMAZING curriculum I have ever used. The books are wonderful, but the guide is the key. I love the video suggestions, art, library books, and recipes. You are not just reading about these places. You are seeing, feeling, smelling and tasting the world. My 7th and 9th grader have loved the program too. I even counted it as my "diversity" requirement at work. LOL For me, this program tied together many of the interests I have had over the years and gave me a way to see them all in a new light. BTY, my 26 year old wants to borrow the program after we are done. Maybe we never grow too old to learn new things. Thank you, Rea. You have really created an excellent study! We are going to order Part 2 next, because we just have to.
Around the world part 1 was great, but it’s sequel, Around the world part 2 is even better. The book selection is absolutely delightful. Anno’s books are exquisite and meticulously thought out. This guide packs so much knowledge even my 5th grader is learning alongside his 1st and 2nd brothers. The library connection books, the art studies, so much in 1 guide. For a busy mom of 5, this guide has helped me cover more subjects with one guide and combine my students to make my life easier and may I say, very enjoyable. Two thumbs up for this guide!
We bought Part 1 and 2 at the same time. My kids love the stories especially from part 2! Read aloud have been amazing this school year!
