These d'Aulaire books are fantastic. After I realized we could read small sections at a time, this book was not too intimidating to go through with my young children.
This little book is a thoughtful perusal of one family's real struggles in providing for a their needs. Hard work goes alongside healthy relationships, and it's a refreshing reminder that families everywhere work hard, but life is bigger than that because of the relationships.
I used this for grades 1 and 4 with a tag-along preschooler. Two of them really enjoyed the regular water colors (I did his with the girls when he opted out), the books were great, and my now-6 year old still asks for green tea with honey, which she was first willing to try because of this study!
I used Beautiful Feet Early American History for 2 years when I homeschooled with my own 2 children while they were in 1st and 2nd grade, then I used it for 20 years as a 1st grade teacher in a private Christian school, and now I recommend all of the Beautiful Feet Curriculum to the families on my roster as an Independent Study K-6 Teacher for a Charter School in CA for the past 5 years. This, in my opinion, is the best Social Studies Curriculum out there because of its Literature Approach that makes it so much more memorable to students. I have had students tell me 20 plus years later that they still have their History Journals and they still remember the stories and lessons from their 1st grade classroom.
Awesome curriculum! A lot of adults would learn from this as well.
My kids and I read the Ralph Moody series and enjoyed them, especially the first several books. Man of the Family was a favorite.

My boys and I have enjoyed using this resource as part of our homeschool morning time. It has been a delightful addition and amazing way to explore the world from our home. Sparked conversations and curiosity - we went down so many fantastic rabbit trails!
Finally something that helped me actually do nature study. I know it should be simple but remembering which books we should read, to pull out the watercolors, to review basic science concepts we see every day in nature.....this guide makes all those things feel like they are in easy reach. The Field notes and watercolor packets are a must, get one for each student (and yourself!). We very much enjoyed our year following this study.
