1965 Newbery Honor Title

"An impressive book both as a historically authentic Civil War novel and as a beautifully written family story." -University of Chicago Center for Children's Books

The unforgettable story of young Jethro Creighton, who comes of age during the turbulent years of the Civil War, by the Newbery Award-winning author Irene Hunt. Poignant, heartwarming, and heart-breaking story of an Illinois farm family and their saga during the Civil War. Insightful look at how war affects even the closest families. Well-researched and highly recommended.
