Fine Print, A Story About Johann Gutenberg
FinePrint_Lg

Life story of the man who developed the first printing press and was responsible for printing the Gutenberg Bible. This story relates the tremendous hardship that Gutenberg overcame to fulfill his dream of moveable type, the sacrifice and price he paid.

64 pgs

From Children's Literature:
Before Johann Gutenberg perfected movable type, the printing press, and oil-based ink, manuscripts-illuminated or otherwise- were acquired only by those who could afford the one-of-a-kind works of art. Gutenberg made possible a book's quick and inexpensive mass production. From what little is known about the inventor, Joann Johansen Burch has written Fine Print to introduce children to the 15th century man whose ingenuity eventually made books a part of almost everyone's daily life. Her account of the printer and the people and circumstances that influenced him is a good read.
